Machine Learning for Application in Data Assimilation
Earth System Research Laboratories, Global Systems Laboratory
Advances in both computing power through new generation Graphical Processing Unit’s (GPU) and the creation of new software libraries have made Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) more accessible to a diverse range of fields including atmospheric sciences. With an increase in volume and complexity of environmental information through satellite observations it is increasingly challenging to extract and utilize meaningful information in real time from the high density information that is being received. NOAA Global Systems Laboratory is seeking candidates to develop and test ML algorithms to improve usage of satellite data information for various scientific problems in the area of data assimilation and numerical weather prediction.
$5000 supplement for PhD in Atmospheric Modeling
Experience Supplement: Postdoctoral and Senior Associates will receive an appropriately higher stipend based on the number of years of experience past their PhD.
