Description

Basic and applied research opportunities are available to study the host pathogen interaction of emerging viruses, in particular members of the Bunyavirales. Projects focus on using relevant small animal systems to study the molecular and cellular determinates of viral pathogenesis, especially the involvement of the inflammatory response in tissue injury. Additional projects are centered on establishing a more comprehensive understanding of the innate and adaptive immune elements critical for control of viral infection. A primary objective is to identify medical countermeasure targets (host and virus) that can be exploited to prevent severe disease caused by high-consequence pathogens.

Training in virology and/or immunology is required. Previous experience with BSL3/4 animal studies is preferred.
