Description

We perform numerical modeling across the full range of scales of motion from <1 mm (sand grain) to 10 km (sub-mesoscale flows) to support basic and applied research focused on improving Navy operational modeling. Current topics of interest include surface gravity waves and coastal currents, large-eddy simulations of stratified and unstratified bottom boundary layer turbulence over rough topography, and direct numerical simulations of sediment transport and bed scour. Numerical modelers have access to state-of-the-art Department of Defense High Performance Computing resources and work in a team environment involving close collaboration with laboratory and field experimentalists. Priority will be given to applicants with experience in High Performance Computing and strong interest in developing advanced numerical approaches for multiscale modeling applications to marine geosciences.
