Description

This research focuses on the development of the cutting edge data assimilation systems based on synthesis of the variational and ensemble methods. Current research topics include sensitivity analysis for targeted observations, external forcing control, and development of a conceptual adjoint-free 4dVar.for of the Navy coastal ocean model. We work closely with numerical modeling, ocean acoustic, and remote sensing groups, also located here. This research is part of the Navy’s effort to develop the next generation of data assimilation systems to increase the forecast skill of the Navy operational models.
