Obtaining accurate snapshots of the Internet's logical topology remains challenging due to its scale, complexity, and architecture. However, such understanding is crucial to securing the network and maintaining this critical infrastructure. Recent work at NPS has focused on high-speed active network mapping, both for IPv4 and IPv6 [1, 2] to reveal emergent properties of the network. This work is especially challenging in the IPv6 domain where infrastructure is sparsely represented in a very large address space. We seek to not only continue this active body of research, especially in the IPv6 space, but extend the work toward mapping the physical infrastructure and understanding shared infrastructure vulnerabilities.
