Experimental investigations are in progress to help us understand and predict the unsteady flow phenomena that occur on unmanned fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, combat air vehicles, and missiles. Research centers on reducing of energy consumption (drag reduction), alleviating undesirable stall effects, and on predicting the aerodynamic characteristics of supersonic missiles. Furthermore, we are conducting studies in conjunction with the US Army on understanding the boundary layer physics associated with flow different methods of flow control. Experimental work is supported by flow visualization methods, particle image velocimetry, and unsteady load measurements. A low-speed wind tunnel and a water tunnel are available at NPS. The emphasis will be on basic research in all cases.

Base Stipend Travel Allotment Supplementation
$67,000.00 $3,000.00

Experience Supplement:
Postdoctoral and Senior Associates will receive an appropriately higher stipend based on the number of years of experience past their PhD.
