A research portfolio aimed at reducing the flammability of materials and products by (1) developing and evaluating innovative fire retardant chemistry and engieering technologies, (2) developing and validating new testing and computational tools and methodologies to quantify flammability performance, and (3) developing and using novel characterization and analytical tools to understand fire retardant mechanisms. The projects span across very applied in nature (e.g., determining to what extent a firefighter may be exposed to PFAS species from their gear) to more fundamental (e.g., developing and using computational tools to understand fire retardant mechanisms).
