Faint light detection is a staple in biology. It is used from systems biology research to bioassays for biomanufacturing and healthcare diagnostics. You will work on applying recent advances in single-photon detection along with novel data processing methods developed in the quantum optics community to biomarker detection and quantification. Of particular interest is the ultimate limit of detecting and enumirating very few (from 0 to 10) biomarkers at high rates. You will develop a new generation of quantum-enabled flow cytometers that surpass the state of the art technology in sensitivity and specificity. You will also work on quantification of bio-luminescence.
