Description

The chemical characterization of biomolecules and the measurement of their interactions at low copy numbers are critical for applications in biomanufacturing and personalized medicine. We are developing new electronics techniques that leverage the field effect, and optomechanical interferometric methods for the on-chip measurements of molecular interactions and spectroscopic characterization of proteins, nucleic acids, small molecule ligands, and other biomolecules. We work closely with theoretical and simulation groups to realize device designs. In addition to fabrication and characterization of these measurement tools, we also develop new readout schemes, signal and data processing, control systems, and biomimetic surfaces to improve the selectivity of our measurements. Opportunities are available in electronic and optical device design and fabrication, biomolecule measurements and biophysics, biomimetic surfaces, and readout and signal processing.
