Gamma-ray spectrometry is a key component in diverse fields such as nuclear analytical methods, nuclear physics, nuclear forensics, environmental radioactivity, nuclear medicine, etc. Research opportunities are available to increase sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of spectrometric systems with multi-detector instruments, time-characterized spectrometry, coincidence and anti-coincidence spectrometry, and newly developed detector types. Targeted applications may be considered for conventional neutron activation analysis, prompt gamma activation analysis, tomography, not commonly assayed nuclides, decommissioning of nuclear reactor and medical facilities, homeland security, environmental health, and other areas with emerging requirements.
