Description

AFIT Microsystems Lab is actively developing new multifunctional microsystems that integrate microphotonics, MEMS, optofluidics, and nonlinear optical materials. We focus our research efforts on designing and fabricating symbiotically advancing optical and electromechanical microsystems, such as MEMS-assisted photonic devices and optically-excited MEMS. We are also investigating the emerging areas of optofluidics, opto-acousto-fluidics, optomechanics, nonlinear optics, photonic-phononic microsystems, magneto-acoustic, 3D nanomachining on non-traditional substrates, and high-Q cavities for various sensing (acoustic, physical, electromagnetic, chemical/biochemical, etc.) applications. We have close collaborations with world-class researchers at AFRL. The selected associate will have access to state-of-the-art nanofabrication and characterization facilities at AFIT and AFRL.

The Associate will have a PhD degree in engineering, or a related field; and training or work experience in areas related to the research thrust areas listed above. Background in microfabrication is helpful. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently within an interdisciplinary team is necessary.

$3,000 Supplement for Doctorates in Engineering & Computer Science

Experience Supplement:
Postdoctoral and Senior Associates will receive an appropriately higher stipend based on the number of years of experience past their PhD.
