Our research focuses on new synthesis of high-performance materials, developing functionalization chemistry for carbon-based and inorganic nanomaterials, and construction of novel multifunctional material systems that could seamlessly combine two or more of the following properties: thermal, mechanical, optical, electrical, or magnetic properties for applications of interest to the Air Force. We design and synthesize functional molecules, monomers, and polymers, as well as measure and characterize their molecular and bulk properties to establish structure/property/processing relationships. Materials of interest include thermoplastics, thermoset resins, aromatic-heterocyclic polymers, dendritic polymers, liquid-crystalline materials, molecular composites, polymer-matrix, nanocomposites, and multiphoton absorbing materials.
