Description

Advanced image processing techniques have been developed in the past to extract maximal object resolution from images affected by optics and atmospheric blurring functions. A new emphasis has now been placed on the optimal reconstruction of 3-Dimensional (3-D) space objects from limited amounts of imagery obtained over limited viewing angles. This emphasis presents new research opportunities for techniques tailored to 3-D object reconstruction. Theoretical information content considerations for such imagery, along the lines of Shannon Information Theory and related fields, help define the best possible object reconstructions on the basis of the available imagery. Bayesian reconstruction theory and techniques may also prove useful in describing the fidelity of the model and its overall level of confidence.
