Opportunities exist to investigate the mean and time variability of ocean circulation, water properties, air-sea fluxes, their interaction, and their role in climate. Possible research areas include (1) evaluation of terms in large-scale ocean heat, freshwater, and biogeochemical budgets; (2) regional analyses of seasonal to decadal variability of air-sea fluxes and water-mass formation; and (3) interpretation of ocean observations with simple dynamical models. A wide range of data are applied to these studies including CTD and ADCP data, profiling CTD float data, surface drifter data, air-sea flux data, moored array data, and various satellite data sets.
