Research Opportunities at the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST)
This website contains abstracts, or
Research Opportunities, that describe areas of research in which ARRA Associateships may be awarded at NIST.
NIST provides the funds for this program and furnishes all necessary support services, facilities, and equipment for the approved research program of each Associate.
While every effort has been made by NIST to provide opportunities of ample scope and relevance, the publication of any opportunity in this website does not guarantee that it will be available at the time awards are offered. Changes and/or deletions may occur because of temporary lack of equipment, laboratory renovation, staffing already sufficient to meet research goals, or a lack of funding.
Status of a NIST ARRA Associate
A NIST ARRA Research Associate is considered to be a guest investigator, not an employee of the National Research Council or of NIST. No commitment on the part of an Associate, the sponsoring laboratory, or the National Research Council with regard to later employment is implied or should be inferred by the offer or acceptance of an award.
Terms of the Award
NIST ARRA awards are made for two years.
Stipend and Benefits
The 2010 annual stipend for an NRC ARRA Associate at NIST is $68,000. NIST ARRA Associates completing one year of tenure will receive a stipend adjustment consistent with the current federal cost of living adjustment.
Health insurance is provided through the NRC on a cost sharing basis with the Associate. Funds are also provided for relocation to the NIST laboratory and the NIST ARRA Associate will have an annual budget of $5500 for professional travel.
