Description

This research aims to better understand deep ocean circulation by quantifying dynamics within the bottom boundary layer and its interactions with topography, internal wave generation, and the forward cascade of energy to tubulence scales. Synchronous observations will provide direct flux of buoyancy and momentum over the bottom boundary layer that can be used as boundary conditions for a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of the bottom boundary layer and the shear flow over complex topography. Required are strong programming skills and knowledge of turbulence and ocean bottom boundary layer processes. Experience with LES models is desireable.

key words
deep ocean circulation, bottom boundary layer dynamics, turbulence, large eddy simulation
