The objective is to characterize the variability of the ocean circulation in various regions of the world oceans by using a combination of observations from in situ instruments (mainly Argo floats) and satellites (mainly sea surface height). The goals are to improve our knowledge of the mean circulation, as well as the seasonal and interannual variability, to learn more about the transports along the pathways of the meridional overturning circulation and to provide data sets that can be used as a tool to improve the performance of models. These goals can be tackled by analyzing the observations-based estimates in conjunction with fields from numerical models.
