Description

The Naval Research Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work on the ocean sciences of tomorrow. We seek qualified applicants with experience and interest in laser remote sensing and/or data assimilation. A scientific background in ocean transport and current physics is of particular interest.

The Ocean Sensing and Processes Branch of the Ocean Sciences Division performs basic and applied research leading to advanced science and technology development focusing on the physical and optical properties of the littoral and offshore environment. We work with other NRL branches and divisions to study ocean properties through high-performance computing simulations, laboratory measurements, and field experiments.

Although this research will focus on laser remote sensing and data assimilation, a wide variety of acoustic and optical instrumentation is available. This research will focus on the photic zone (depths < 200 m).

Experience in either data assimilation or working with instrumentation in the laboratory or at sea is desired but optional.
