NRL requires that all US legal permanent residents send a copy of their Resident Alien Card (green card) to the Research Associateship Programs office at the time of application. If the Resident Alien Card is not provided, the application will not be processed, and will be removed from further consideration.
NRL Research Associateship Awards are made for one year. Awards may be renewed for a second and third year, upon mutual agreement of the Laboratory Program Representative, Research Adviser and Associate, pending the availability of funds. Renewals are generally for 12 months, but in special cases can be granted for less than 12 months but at least 6 months. In some cases an extension may be requested to bring research to a logical conclusion of up to 3 months.
Dual Citizenship:If offered an award, those who hold another citizenship in addition to that of the United States must provide the following to NRL security before beginning tenure:
- A statement expressing their willingness to renounce their dual citizenship
- A receipt that they have relinquished their passport at the embassy (alternatively, awardees may relinquish their non-US passport to NRL’s Personnel Security Office on tenure start date)
