This research project will investigate the fundamental processes governing the environmental transport and fate of manufactured organic nanomaterials (CNTs and graphene derivatives) in soils, sediments, and ground and surface waters. This research may include experimental and modeling studies on the transport of nanomaterials through porous media, environmental partitioning of the nanomaterials (e.g., sorption to sediments and dissolved organic matter), nanomaterial solubilization and aggregation in solution, as well as biotic and abiotic transformation processes. The project will complement nascent EPA-Athens work on laboratory and mesoscale nanomaterial transport and transformation processes.
