In today’s imaging systems, many factors from the image formation and recording affect sensor performance and image quality. This can result in loss of high-frequency information or low contrast in an image. It is desirable to develop signal and image processing algorithms to enhance the image quality or remove the image degradation phenomena. This research opportunity involves (1) the development of optimal signal and image processing technologies to recover the useful high-frequency components that are lost or corrupted in the image and (2) determination of the overall imaging system performance when signal and image processing is included as a component of the imaging system.
