Our laboratory is interested in trauma of soft tissue, primarily skeletal muscle. Types of trauma include ischemia/reperfusion injury, laceration injury, blunt trauma injury, compartment syndrome, and burn injury. We are using and developing unique animal models including transgenics. Emphasis is placed on the development and use of non-invasive imaging techniques and biomarkers for triage and follow-up assessment of damage and recovery. Our ultimate goal is to develop procedures and products for the initial treatment of muscle injury in order to minimize trauma, hasten recovery, and restore muscle function.
