Description

The Prolonged Field Care Research Program supports focused efforts involving the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of secondary sequela that develop under delayed evacuation and prolonged care with an overall focus on enhanced decision support and treatment for first-responders (medical and non-medical). The significant scientific thrust areas include: methods for limb preservation; diagnosis of extremity compartment syndrome; early prediction/diagnosis of sepsis; and prevention and mitigation of treatment sequela resulting from prolonged immobilization. The program supports basic mechanistic research, however the focus is primarily translational research involving preclinical animal studies and clinical studies in trauma/burn patients.
