We perform research to understand pathogenesis and natural history of disease following inhalation. The analysis of host targets and responses in the lungs identifies host response pathways and potential targets of intervention. Work involves evaluating pre-clinical efficacy of therapeutic and prophylactic medical countermeasures, developing surrogate markers of efficacy, immune correlates, defining immunological responses in the lung following both vaccination and challenge, and performing “animal rule” studies for submission to FDA for regulatory decisions.
