Description

Improving vehicle performance has always been one of the most vital aspects of rotorcraft design. However, it is the most challenging area in rotorcraft research and design due to the complexity of the rotorcraft aeromechanics and the large range of operation of the rotor blade. The inherent physics of flight near the edge of the envelope require design compromises for current rotorcraft. Innovations must be made in the design of the rotor system in order to improve the performance of a rotorcraft while, at the same time, maintaining its stability, low vibration, and safety.

The goal of this project is to addresses the rotor morphing concepts to significantly improve rotorcraft performance. Efforts will focus on the analysis and development of rotor morphing concepts that have the potential to significantly improve rotorcraft performance and aeromechanics and that also have the potential for realistic application in the near future.
