Description

This research focuses on high performance metal halide perovskite photovoltaics (PV) for current and future Naval applications. We seek to produce high efficiency, stable metal halide perovskite PV devices via solution processes. To this end, this effort includes utilizing various PV configurations (e.g. research-scale cells, mini-modules, modules), perovskite absorbers (e.g. mixed cations, Pb, Sn, mixed halides, 2D/3D), device architectures (e.g. single- and multi-junctions), and substrates (e.g. rigid and non-rigid substrates). The perovskite devices also require robust encapsulation for industry standard stability testing and field deployment. High performance, stable perovskite PVs for current and future Naval applications include, but are not limited to, wide-bandgap perovskite PVs for underwater power generation; radiation tolerant perovskite PVs for space application; high efficiency perovskite tandem devices (e.g. monolithic integration, mechanical stacking, 2T- and 4T tandem); and large-area, lightweight and flexible solar blankets for expeditionary application. We seek applicants with interest in demonstrating high efficiency, stable perovskite PVs by using relevant solution process, device fabrication techniques, interface engineering, encapsulation, and materials/device characterization.
