Children‘s exposure to chemical contaminates (pesticides, PBDEs, phthalates, PAHs, PFCs, as well as selected tracer and/or toxic metals) in their everyday environment typically involve varied sources across multiple pathways of exposure. Currently there is also an interest in understanding the factors associated with soil and dust as an exposure metric for environmental chemicals. This includes the relationship between contact with soil and house dust and its association with chemical contaminants. We are particularly interested in refining critical inputs to exposure models such as determining age-based dust ingestion rates (using field-based tracer techniques) and factors related to hand to mouth activities in order to further our understanding of the total environmental dose received by children. This project provides data and tools that will further refine our general understanding of soil and dust exposure metrics, and its application to modeling exposures to contaminates found in our living environments.
