Current research focuses on the development of photonic integrated circuits that will enable the generation, processing, and detection/reception of analog RF photonic signals. Target circuits include the generation (oscillators, clocks, etc.) manipulation (analog photonic filters, ADCs, DACs etc.), detection (broadband receivers, STAR receivers etc.) beamforming (true time delays etc.) of RF signals and various modulation format generators. The ongoing research mostly focuses on utilizing existing photonic integrated circuit manufacturing foundries and there is less focus on developing enabling components. Using various photonic component and circuit simulators is required. Experience with setting up aboratory experiments to characterize built integrated photonic subsystems and systems is expected.
