Our main interests include novel microwave and millimeter-wave circuits and devices for phased array antennas, and photon generated microwave and millimeter-wave sources. Current research focuses on multidimensional optically excited antenna arrays that utilize semiconductors as source radiators, advanced concepts for control and amplification of antenna signals based on novel semiconductor systems and micro-electromechanical systems, and the understanding of microwave loss mechanisms in low loss materials. This work involves experimental investigation as well as modeling. Our facilities include high-end workstations and personal computers, a complete RF analysis, design and characterization capability from DC to 500 GHz, RF measurements with magnetic fields from 0.5. Gauss to 5 Tesla, lasers and optics for semiconductor excitation, and a class 100 clean room and fabrication capability.
