Polymer matrix composites are a central component in the aerospace community due to their specific strength and potential for multifunctionality. We are interested in developing the modeling tools to predict the processing of materials, including the residual stress state, as well as defects (e.g., porosity, wrinkling) that may be generated during curing. Integrating the process models with embedded sensing and closed-loop algorithms is expected to increase the process development efficiency. Expanding these tools to new processes (e.g., additive manufacturing) or new materials (e.g., multifunctional) is also sought. Our work spans basic and applied research areas.
