Our research focuses on the development of biopolymer- and polymer-based materials and fabrication processes for high-speed, low operating power, small size integrated electronic, photonic, and electro-optic devices and components. We are particularly interested in using biotechnology to enable high-performance transistors, light emitting diodes, photovoltaics, solid-state lasers, and electro-optic modulators. In-house research involves (1) investigation of new biopolymer and polymer materials; (2) materials processing; (3) nonlinear, optical, and electromagnetic characterization of materials; (4) new fabrication methods and processes; (5) computer modeling and simulation; and (6) integration, packaging, and manufacturing processes. Materials of interest include biopolymer and polymers-based dielectrics, ferroelectrics, semiconductors, lumiphores, and ferromagnetics. Close collaboration with other Air Force research directorates is a high priority.
