The threat of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) agents pose serious challenges to homeland security as well as to military operations worldwide. Mass spectrometry based metabolomic studies are becoming an increasingly popular and powerful technique, which is capable of characterizing the biological response to such an exposure event. Defining these complex molecular signatures provides novel insight essential for the development of new therapeutic, diagnostic, and detection strategies. This research opportunity requires the use of modern mass spectrometers and bioinformatics software to elucidate the complex molecular responses of a chemical and/or biological exposure at the metabolome level.
Applicants should have (1) a recent Ph.D. in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or related field of study with 2-3 years of mass spectrometry experience; (2) hands-on experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Orbitrap mass spec; and (3) experience on a triple quadrupole and/or QTOF. Applicants should also have experience in all aspects of metabolomic analysis from sample preparation to data analysis.
