This project will focus on the identification of pathogens, as well as nonpathogenic strains and closely related bacteria and associated viruses. The approach will utilize a combination of classical techniques coupled with genomic sequencing, PCR, and bioinformatics to identify, characterize, and understand the fundamental aspects of these bacteria in order to have engineered phage directly target the pathogenic bacteria for antimicrobial treatments.
