Opportunities exist for application of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methods to study reactions on heterogeneous catalysts, sorbents, materials, and environmental matrices. Areas of concern include (1) nature and structure of active sites on catalysts, (2) detecting intermediates and products, (3) kinetics, (4) reaction mechanisms, (5) environmental fate and product persistence, and (6) materials characterization. Additional interests include NMR studies of adsorption on activated carbon, zeolites, and the nature and dynamics of adsorbates.
