A Research Opportunity in bacterial genetics and genomics is available at the US Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) for a highly motivated individual with a recent Ph.D. in microbiology, genetics, or related field to participate in an ongoing research project to develop new, genetically barcoded simulants for biological threat agents. The Associate will participate in a highly interdisciplinary, multi-institutional collaboration to introduce short genetic tags that enable discrimination of strain lineage and monitoring of strain fate in the environment using custom-designed, strain-specific real-time PCR assays. In addition, the Associate will design and construct strains with amino acid tags localized on the spore surface.
