Description

Our group conducts basic and applied research and support in molecular diagnostics for the Department of Defense. Research areas encompass diagnostic assay development, biomarker verification, pathogen characterization, and antibiotic resistance detection. Current funded efforts include (1) developing diagnostic assays for emerging viral and bacterial pathogens and for verification of host biomarkers of infection, (2) developing novel methods to improve assay sensitivity (sample processing, target sequence erosion), (3) developing novel NGS diagnostic assays, (4) conducting in vivo animal studies for pathogen characterization and biomarker identification, and (5) transitioning our developed assays for field implementation. These efforts require access to BSL2, BSL3, and BSL4 containment labs.
