Selective Methods for C-X Activation

This research focuses on the exploration of selective methods for C-X activation. We perform experimental mechanistic studies to predict the stereochemical outcome of transition metal catalyzed transformations, including oxidative addition. Studies are also performed to determine the mechanisms of transformations and to distinguish among SN2-like displacements, free radical intermediates, and ionic processes. The influence of substrate structure and metal on the rate and selectivity of oxidative additions are assessed. Our goal is to understand the fundamental properties that govern reactivity and selectivity and to determine selective reaction pathways for the catalytic functionalization of complex natural molecules, including carbohydrates.
